HIGH SCHOOL APPLICATION SEMINAR - OCTOBER 16TH 5:30PM TO 7:30PM

The high school application process can be very challenging. Many parents under estimate the amount of research that needs to be done to ensure that their child does not attend a school where they are not supported and cared for. If the application is not filled out properly, children could spend their high school career in a very dangerous atmosphere or even get lost in the system.

We are here to help you make sure your child attends the right school for him or her. Please join us on October 16th to learn how the application process works and how you can make sure your child spends their high school years in a safe learning environment.

THIS EVENT IS MANDATORY FOR 8TH GRADE PARENTS. ALL OTHER GRADES ARE ENCOURAGED TO ATTEND. ITS NEVER TOO EARLY TO START LOOKING FOR THE RIGHT SCHOOL FOR YOUR CHILD.

PLAYGROUND OPENING CEREMONY - SEPTEMBER 20TH - 10AM TO 3PM

Welcome Letter - September 13, 2008

Dear JHS 13 Family Member,

Welcome back to another exciting school year. For the newest members of the JHS 13 family, we want to welcome you to one of the best schools in New York City. We have an incredible school year planned for you. Not only has the $400,000 library grant been confirmed, we are in the process of setting up our own medical center. We have gotten Mt. Sinai to partner with us and we are now working on logistics as far as construction. Both of these great additions to our school will be located in rooms 301 and 303. Our next goal for improving the school is a parent resource center. This will provide GED programs, job placement, baby sitting, and other areas that have been shared with us as needed support. Any additional feedback you can give on this would be greatly appreciated so we can make it as accommodating as possible.

In preparation for the school year, the staff dedicated all their meeting time in June to assemble the smoothest opening day and strongest year of instruction. They spent the summer planning lessons and exploring ways we can help raise student achievement level and help your child enter a prestigious high school. The staff is extremely excited to provide the best education possible. We are looking into ways on how we can increase the amount of reading and writing your child does per week. Statistics proves the more students read and write the higher they achieve in school and on state testing. Please help us support your child by making sure they are doing their 45 minutes of independent reading per night and completing all writing assignments.

Again, we have a great year planned for your family. Here are few of the upcoming events:
September 18th from 10am to 12pm – VIP breakfast – Please call if you would like to attend
September 20th from 10am to 3pm – Opening Ceremony to the Playground – Fun for the whole family
September 23rd from 6pm to 8pm – Open School Night – You can’t miss this event!!
October 16th from 5:30pm to 7:30pm – High School Applications Seminar – Mandatory for 8th grade parents
School Closed on the following dates: Sept. 30, Oct. 1, Oct. 9, and Oct. 13

On behalf of the school, I would like to thank you in preparing your children for the first day of school. Not only were the students in their dress code, they were prepared with all their supplies in a short amount of time. The kids looked fantastic and the classrooms are functioning at full capacity. We look forward to seeing you throughout the school year and helping your child and you achieve your goals. Let’s have an amazing year!

If you have any questions, please feel free to call the school at 212-860-8935, our parent coordinator, Renne Word at 917-805-4700, or me at 917-208-7075.

Sincerely,

Jacob T. Michelman
